Obituary for Ronald Gene Johnson
Ronald Gene Johnson was born in Mount Clemens Michigan in 1943. He was the oldest of three brothers. As a child he enjoyed being outdoors, swimming and boating in the lakes and rivers in Michigan. He also played little league. One of his fondest memories was an all-star game played against Canada in which he led the team to victory with a walk off grand slam.
After graduating from High school and working in his father’s gas station for a few years, Ronald served four years in the United States Air force. In 1969 he met his wife Cynthia, they had a daughter, Colleen. Cynthia was diagnosed with leukemia and passed away in 1979. Ronald met his second wife Phylis in 1981, they were married in 1988 and shared many happy years together before Phylis passed away in 2017.
Ronald worked for the US Postal Service for a short time and afterwards was a Sales Manager for Steiner Corporation. Most recently he worked for Seapoint Properties for twenty-five years. He took pride in his work and really enjoyed his job. He thought of the people he worked with as family and was sad to leave when he retired in 2018.
He loved his dog Danny, they were inseparable. He loved laughing and having fun with his family and friends, all sports, country music and singing karaoke. Two of his most favorite past times were watching the Padres and Chargers, and gambling, especially in Laughlin NV.
Ronald passed away peacefully with his daughter by his side after a five-year battle with colon cancer. He is survived by his Daughter Colleen Johnson and Stepson Blandy Sapienza, Grandchildren Savannah Sapienza and Corey Crippen, three great grandchildren Paityn, Lily and Carson, his Niece Sami Wilcox and Nephews Levi and Trevor Johnson. In addition to his wives Cynthia and Phylis, he is predeceased by his Mother and Father Leanore and Eugene Johnson and his two younger brothers Daniel and Michael Johnson.
He was a good man, loving, caring and kind. He will be missed by all who knew him. A memorial service will be held on July 15th, 2019 at Community Mortuary in Chula Vista at 11am followed by lunch at Labella’s at 12:30pm. Ronald requested that the service be very casual. To honor his love of sports, we will be wearing our favorite team jerseys and t-shirts, please join us. “Kwe”
