Obituary for Dra. Celia Guevara
Dr---. Celia Pérez Guevara, 82, died July 28, 2020 in her home, with her family by her side in Chula Vista, California, after having battled leukemia for 15 years.
She was born on November 23, 1937 in Guadalajara, Jalisco, MX to Dr. Ignacio Pérez Monroy and Margarita Plazola Guerrero. Her father, aside from his work in internal medicine, was an accomplished professor of music, composer, and author. Her mother was a dedicated homemaker, mother of 8, and grandmother who lived to be 107 years old.
Celia’s early life in Guadalajara was spent studying music, performing in musical theater, and working as a church organist. She attended the University of Guadalajara, where she earned a degree as a dental surgeon in 1961 before moving to Tijuana, BC to open her dental practice. She met Arturo Guevara in Tijuana and they were married from 1966 until his death in 2002. The family moved to Chula Vista, CA in 1976.
Celia devoted her life to service to others through her dental practice in Tijuana, which she steadily maintained into her last years. She also served the community at Our Lady of Guadalupe Catholic Church in Chula Vista as choir director/organist for more than 40 years.
Dr. Guevara is survived by her siblings, Rubén, Rosa Cecilia, Eva, and Angélica Pérez Plazola; 4 sons and their spouses, Sergio and Liliana Guevara, Jorge Alfonso and Joann Guevara, Alejandro and Pamela Guevara, Gerardo and Christina Guevara; and 11 grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her eldest son, Arturo (1967-1971); 1 sister, Emma Pérez Peña; 2 brothers, Hector and Jose “Pepe” Pérez Plazola; and her husband, Arturo.

La Dra. Celia Pérez Guevara, de 82 años, murió el 28 de julio de 2020 en su casa, con su familia a su lado en Chula Vista, California, después de haber luchado contra la leucemia durante 15 años.
Nació el 23 de noviembre de 1937 en Guadalajara, Jalisco, México, hija del Dr. Ignacio Pérez Monroy y Margarita Plazola Guerrero. Su padre, además de su trabajo en la medicina interna, fue profesor de música, compositor, y autor. Su madre fue ama de casa, madre de 8 hijos y abuela que vivió hasta los 107 años.
En su juventud, Celia estudió la música, participó en obras de teatro, y trabajó como organista de la iglesia. Asistió a la Universidad de Guadalajara, donde obtuvo una licenciatura como cirujano dentista en 1961. Posteriormente se mudo a Tijuana, BC para instalar su consultorio dental. Conoció a Arturo Guevara en Tijuana y permanecieron casados desde 1966 hasta el 2002, cuando falleció Arturo.
La familia se mudó a Chula Vista, CA en 1976.
Celia dedicó su vida al servicio de los demás a través de su profesión como dentista en Tijuana, la cual mantuvo hasta sus últimos años. También sirvió a la comunidad en la Iglesia Católica Nuestra Señora de Guadalupe en Chula Vista como directora / organista del coro por más de 40 años.
A la Dra. Guevara le sobreviven sus hermanos, Rubén, Rosa Cecilia, Eva y Angélica Pérez Plazola; 4 hijos y sus esposas, Sergio y Liliana Guevara, Jorge Alfonso y Joann Guevara, Alejandro y Pamela Guevara, Gerardo y Christina Guevara; y 11 nietos.
Le precedieron en la muerte su hijo mayor, Arturo (1967-1971); 1 hermana, Emma Pérez Peña; 2 hermanos, Héctor y José "Pepe" Pérez Plazola; y su esposo, Arturo.
